Summary

In September 1960, a reliable witness reported observing six objects in the sky near Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. He described them as "fireballs" or "flying saucers." Two of them were quite large, measuring between three to seven feet in diameter, and had a spherical or flattened shape, resembling masses of molten metal. Initially, these objects hovered at a low altitude, about 600 feet above the ground, for about a minute before moving along the road at an estimated speed of 800 miles per hour. As they advanced, three smaller objects emerged from behind the two larger ones and aligned with them. Then, all the objects suddenly increased speed dramatically, reaching approximately 2000 miles per hour, and ascended vertically away from the earth. They disappeared almost immediately, and the witness could not determine if they had moved out of sight or if the internal lights had simply turned off. Another truck driver also confirmed seeing them.

The report was submitted by the Fifth Army, which did not plan to investigate further. The document does not provide conclusions or identify the objects, but it records a clear and detailed account of an unusual aerial phenomenon. The description of the vertical maneuver and extreme speed suggests that these were not conventional aircraft or known natural phenomena. This case is one of many from the era that remain unexplained and contribute to the mystery surrounding UFO sightings.
