Oblong UFO Sighting at Sandia Base

Summary

A soldier at Sandia Base, New Mexico, reported an unidentified aerial object on September 29, 1950, at 04:45 hours. The observer, driving a jeep near the Igloo area, described a bluish-yellow flame-like object with a slightly elongated shape and sparks coming from the rear. It was moving northwest to southeast at an estimated speed of 350 to 400 mph and remained visible for 3 to 4 seconds. Although no sound or odor was detected, the object left a blue trail with yellow edges. The report, classified and later declassified, was sent to the Air Materiel Command and the USAF Inspector General, but no formal investigation was conducted as per AFCSI instructions.
