Summary

In January 1951, a series of observers in Kentucky and Georgia reported a luminous phenomenon traveling at high speed. The object was seen between Corbin, Lexington, and Atlanta, and caused seven shock waves in Corbin. Although no photos were taken, multiple civilian witnesses confirmed the event. The object left no clear visual trail, but its speed and the sensation of shock made it memorable. The collected data indicated the phenomenon was not a balloon, an aircraft, or an unknown astronomical object.

A local astronomer concluded it was a meteor. Despite the lack of images and details such as size or color, the trajectory and shock wave descriptions support this interpretation. The event was recorded under Project 10073, an initiative that collected reports of unidentified aerial phenomena. Though considered resolved today, that meteor left a lasting impression on the witnesses of the time.
