Summary

In January 1951, near Unalakleet in Alaska, an aerial phenomenon was reported that caused confusion among observers. According to a report from the time, three objects were detected by radar about 28 miles away, moving at high speed. Two of them disappeared, while the third remained visible for a few minutes. OSI agents interviewed witnesses who claimed to have seen "flares" on six different nights, but considered their testimonies unreliable. Despite investigation efforts, no clear explanation was found. Possibilities such as balloons, aircraft, solar reflections, or even submarine lights were considered, but all remained speculative.

Military authorities concluded that there was insufficient data to evaluate the event with certainty. Although aerial intercepts were carried out and control centers were contacted, no confirmation of the phenomenon's nature was achieved. The official investigation suggested it could have been a solar reflection or a flare, but other explanations were not ruled out. Like many other cases from that era, this one was classified and remained in the archives until its declassification decades later.
