🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1951, along the coast of Alaska, a nighttime observation of alternating red and green lights was recorded. The declassified report describes how a weather bureau officer observed lights in the direction of 242 degrees from the Cape Wales station. The lights first appeared as a faint glow suggesting the presence of a ship, although no superstructure was visible. The lights disappeared for half an hour and then reappeared, remaining visible until fog obscured them. Although a balloon or ship was considered, no conclusive explanation was found.
The report was shared with several military and civilian units, including Ladd Air Force Base and Eielson Air Force Base. Confirmation of Burton Island's position and the use of barrage balloons was requested. Ultimately, the lights were likely from a ship, though not definitively identified. Visibility was clear, and the case was evaluated as low probability UFO.
