🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
Throughout 1951, residents and military personnel on St Lawrence Island, Alaska, reported a series of mysterious explosions. These events, which lasted for six months, caused ground vibrations and were accompanied by visible flashes both on land and in the water. Although initially considered a possible UFO event, the reports concluded that the explosions were likely from coastal artillery fire. The explosions were located near the Chukotskiy Peninsula and observed from various strategic positions.
Post-analysis, including photographs and radar observations, indicated that the explosions were consistent with gun fire from coastal defense batteries. No unidentified aerial objects were observed, and the characteristics of the explosions matched controlled firing. Despite the seemingly conventional nature of the events, the reports remained classified for decades, reflecting the high sensitivity of information during the Cold War.
