🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1951, a witness in Gerald, Missouri, reported a bright object moving slowly across the sky from south to north, leaving a white trail estimated to be two miles long. The object's altitude and speed could not be determined, but the witness insisted it was real and should be reported to authorities. The local newspaper, *The Gerald Journal*, described the witness as a respected, non-publicity-seeking individual, lending credibility to the account.
The report was sent to the army and air force, but it was concluded the trail was from an aircraft. However, the witness had previously reported a similar phenomenon, this time identifying it as a meteor or comet. The lack of other witnesses in the area raised doubts, but also sparked questions about the possibility of something more behind these sightings. The case was closed without further investigation, but it remains an example of how local UFO reports reached authorities during the UFO era.
