🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A 1951 sighting in Indianapolis was initially mistaken for a balloon or aircraft. Military and civilian witnesses reported a white object moving westward. The observation varied in duration, and while several possibilities were considered, including astronomical and aerial, it was eventually identified as a research balloon.
The case was shared with multiple agencies, including the army, navy, and CIA, for analysis. Despite the initial confusion, the collected data allowed authorities to conclude the object was a high-altitude balloon. Such sightings were common at the time, as balloons were used for scientific and surveillance experiments.
