Summary

In February 1952, an Air Force officer in El Paso, Texas, captured images of unidentified flying objects that initially seemed unexplainable. The photos showed two circular objects resembling Saturn. However, upon analyzing the negative, technicians discovered that the "objects" were actually flaws in the photographic emulsion caused by damage to the negative. These flaws, when developing the film, projected as images on the printed copies. The investigation concluded that it was not a hoax, but an accident during the developing process.

The officer, Captain Musick, developed the photos in his own improvised bathroom darkroom as part of a photography hobby. Although he couldn’t recall the exact date he developed the film, he assured that he followed proper fine-grain developing procedures. After discovering the images, he submitted the copies to base authorities, who referred them to aerial intelligence specialists. Eventually, it was determined that the flaws were common in improperly handled film, and there were no signs of fraud. The case was closed, but it illustrates how UFO phenomena can have simple technical explanations.
