Summary

In April 1952, a group of civilians in Coldwater, Ohio, observed a bright red object in the sky. They described a circular object with a color resembling cherry-red hot iron. Although a balloon was considered, its size and speed seemed unusual. The object appeared directly overhead and drifted northwest before disappearing at an elevation of about 30 degrees. Witnesses estimated it to be about 1/8 the size of a full moon, suggesting a considerable size. They noted it moved faster than a typical balloon, raising doubts about its identity.

Weather conditions indicated northeast winds at high altitudes, which could have affected the trajectory of a balloon. However, no conclusive evidence of a recent launch was found. The possibility of a "piball," a type of weather balloon difficult to track, was mentioned. Despite detailed observations, the final report did not reach a definitive conclusion, leaving open the question of whether it was a balloon, an astronomical phenomenon, or something entirely different.
