In May 1952, two sheriff's deputies in Imperial, California, observed five soft white to yellow objects flying in a tight circular pattern. They noticed two objects joining three others, forming a group that orbited quickly before three disappeared suddenly. Although F-9-F jets were airborne in the area, no sound was heard, causing confusion among witnesses.

The sighting was classified as "possibly aircraft," but the lack of noise and unusual speed suggested something else. At the same time in Yuma, Arizona, a tower operator thought the objects were cars on the highway, though this was never confirmed.
