Summary

On the night of August 5, 1952, two airmen at Haneda AFB in Japan spotted a bright circular object in the sky. They reported it to the control tower, where other observers confirmed with binoculars that it had a central bright light and fainter lights around it. The object moved at variable speeds, even stopping and accelerating suddenly. An F-94 was dispatched to intercept it but failed to visually identify it, though radar contact was made for 90 seconds before it disappeared. Witnesses compared the object to weather balloons and Venus, but noted its light was much brighter and bluish. The lack of weather data and the inability to confirm the nature of the phenomenon led to the case being classified as "unknown."
