🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A carpenter in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reported a silver triangular object moving from east to west in the mid-1950s. The sighting lasted three minutes and no sound was heard. Although the observer had no experience identifying military aircraft, the object disappeared quickly behind some trees, making further evaluation difficult. Weather data indicated that a weather balloon had been launched at Kirtland AFB at the same time as the sighting, leading to the consideration of this explanation as likely.
The official evaluation concluded that the object was probably a balloon, although other possibilities were not ruled out. The description of the object as triangular and silver, along with its silent movement, generated some controversy. However, the lack of radar or aerial interception limited the ability to confirm the nature of the phenomenon. The report was filed under Project 10073, an initiative of the time to document and analyze unidentified flying object sightings.
