In November 1952, several qualified observers in Florence, South Carolina, reported an unidentified flying object with an elliptical shape. The object, described as thick in the center and tapering at the edges, moved slowly without emitting noise or exhaust. Three sightings occurred between 17:13 and 17:24, with one observer tracking it for six minutes. Despite clear weather and ideal visibility, the object could not be identified as a conventional aircraft.

Airport authorities, an Eastern Airlines captain, weather observers, and radio and tower operators confirmed the sightings. The official evaluation considered the possibility of a high-altitude jet, but no contrails or characteristic sounds were reported.
