🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A U.S. Air Force pilot and a radar observer reported an unusual object over Misawa Air Base in Japan in January 1953. The object, which displayed no aerodynamic features or propulsion trail, emitted a light that continuously changed color from red to white to green. The pilot observed it for one minute at an altitude of 35,000 feet, while radar detected it for two minutes as a weak and fuzzy stationary speck. Although the object appeared stationary, the radar equipment showed unusual behavior throughout the mission.
The official conclusion suggested it was a weather balloon launched from Misawa, as the object appeared about 50 minutes after the launch. However, the pilot attempted to intercept it but lost contact when overshooting. No physical evidence was found, and the pilot and observer were part of a transient unit, making it difficult to assess the reliability of the report. The weather was overcast but with unlimited visibility above the cloud layer. Despite the conventional explanation, the case remains intriguing due to the visual and radar correlation.
