Summary

In January 1953, a Panamanian newspaper published a report about a mysterious unidentified flying object spotted near Aguadulce. A journalist claimed to have seen a flying disc with intense brightness and incredible speed, unlike any known aircraft. The account came from a respected and educated man, a former mayor of the region, which added credibility to the story. The report was kept secret for a while to alert the air defenses of the Panama Canal before being made public.

However, the U.S. Air Force investigated and concluded the story was a hoax. The photo of the object published in the newspaper was revealed to be a white spot manually scraped into a negative, not a real image. The report also noted that the newspaper had a history of publishing sensationalist stories to boost circulation. Although other witnesses claimed to have seen the same object, the lack of physical evidence and the questionable authenticity of the image led to the case being dismissed. The incident highlights how media could shape public perception of UFO sightings during the mid-20th century.
