Summary

In February 1953, a U.S. Air Force officer in charge of the Weather Bureau on Truk Island in the Pacific observed an unidentified object shaped like a bullet. The object was traveling at an estimated 150 mph at an altitude of around 400 to 500 feet, three to four miles away. It was described as shiny, with a highly polished metal-like appearance, slightly larger than a C-47 aircraft, and without visible wings or tail. The observation occurred in the early morning, when a C-47 was landing nearby, leading to some confusion about the object's identity.

Although initially considered a balloon or aircraft, later analysis suggested it might have been a conventional plane. The bright sunlight could have distorted the normal appearance of the C-47. However, the lack of noise, vapor trails, or exhaust, combined with the object's behavior, continues to raise questions. While this case was classified as "likely aircraft," it remains an enigma in the history of early UFO reports.
