🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1953, thousands of people in San Francisco witnessed a mysterious object in the sky: a black sphere with two silver streaks moving rapidly in a zigzag pattern. Witnesses reported a deep, throbbing sound as the object passed overhead at around 10,000 feet. Although initially speculated to be a UFO or extraterrestrial craft, scientists attributed the phenomenon to a temperature inversion. An astronomer explained that a warm air layer between two cold layers acted as a mirror, reflecting lights and creating optical illusions. The local newspaper, the *San Francisco Examiner*, published detailed accounts of the sightings and scientific theories. Despite the meteorological explanation, the event left a trail of curiosity and mystery among the public.
