🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A meteor was mistaken for a jet in 1953. Witnesses in North Carolina and Virginia observed an explosion in the sky that was initially thought to be an aircraft. The Air Force concluded it was a meteor, and no aircraft were lost. Several observers reported the phenomenon, and both the Coast Guard and the Weather Service identified it as such. Although the initial mystery generated concern, the natural explanation turned out to be clear.
