🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A 1953 report describes the observation of a luminous object with changing colors, spherical and silent, seen from the Dover AFB control tower. Six officers confirmed the presence of the object, which appeared about five degrees above the horizon and remained visible for 15 minutes. One of the witnesses, an experienced pilot, estimated it to be about 50 feet in diameter and located between five and ten miles away. The object showed no speed or maneuvers and disappeared by fading out.
The airbase tried to contact the air division to authorize a scramble for interception, but it was denied. Weather conditions were favorable, with seven miles visibility and partly cloudy skies. Despite detailed observations, no physical evidence or photographs were found. Ultimately, investigators concluded the phenomenon was astronomical, attributing it to Venus, although witnesses were unconvinced.
