Summary

In April 1953, a U.S. pilot in Fukuoka, Japan, reported a UFO that appeared as a dark spot in the sky. Suddenly, the object lit up with a bright blue flame. The pilot saw it pass in front of his aircraft, maintaining a height of about 1,000 to 2,000 feet and about 3 degrees to his right. The object moved in an unusual way, crossing and retreating as if maneuvering with precision. The pilot tried to approach it for identification, but the light vanished. The radar did not detect the object, despite being operational, and there were no other aircraft in the area.

The observation lasted about 20 seconds, and the pilot described the phenomenon in detail. Although there was no physical evidence or photographs, the report was classified as "unidentified." The officer in charge of the case, 2nd Lt. Billy B. Coggin, concluded there was no conventional explanation for the event. This case is an example of many from that era that remain unsolved, adding mystery to Cold War UFO files.
