White UFO Sighted Over Greenland in 1953

Summary

In April 1953, two observers in an aircraft over Greenland reported a mysterious white light moving at high speed. The object, seen at around 15,000 feet and between 50 to 100 miles away, appeared to be in a shallow descending turn. The pilots, flying at 9,500 feet, observed it for three seconds before it faded out. Initially considered a celestial phenomenon, such as a meteor, the report classified it as such, even though meteors rarely appear white. The lack of confirmation from other sources and the opinion of astronomers led to the sighting being labeled as likely natural.

Project Blue Book, the U.S. Air Force's UFO investigation program at the time, reviewed the case and agreed with the assessment that it was an astronomical event. However, the report did not completely rule out other possibilities, such as a balloon or helicopter, though these were deemed unlikely.
