🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1953, multiple unidentified objects were recorded on radars in the Pacific Northwest, specifically in Washington and Oregon. These objects maintained a constant altitude of 6,000 feet and estimated speeds of around 90 knots. Despite interception attempts with combat aircraft such as Pronto Red and Pronto Blue, no visual contact was achieved. Radar data indicated that the objects did not behave like conventional aircraft or vessels. Additionally, the Coast Guard reported large swells and northerly winds, conditions that further complicated identification. The lack of a conventional explanation for these phenomena generated significant interest in air intelligence at the time.
Post-analysis suggested that the objects were not atmospheric reflections or vessels, as ground radar did not register significant activity in the area. The possibility of a thermal inversion hiding the objects was considered but not confirmed. Additionally, weak and unintelligible radio signals were received on the 500 kHz frequency, adding to the mystery. Despite efforts by multiple agencies, including the Coast Guard, Navy, and RCAF, the origin of the objects could not be identified. This case remains one of the unresolved incidents in the history of 1950s UFO reports.
