🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1953, witnesses in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden, reported an unusual optical phenomenon. A shuttle-shaped object with a greenish white light crossed the sky rapidly, visible for just a few seconds. At a nearby airport, it was estimated to have passed over in about 4 seconds. Additional witnesses described the object traveling westward at an estimated angle of around 30 degrees from the horizon. Although initially intriguing due to its speed and color, official comments suggested it was likely a meteor.
The description of the phenomenon fit what was considered typical of a meteor. An expert reviewed the sighting and concluded it was probably a meteor. However, the coincidence of sightings in two different countries at the same time generated some curiosity. Despite initial doubts, no evidence supported a more exotic explanation, and the case was filed as a natural event.
