Summary

A weather officer at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas, Charles Reed, observed a luminous phenomenon in the early hours of June 23, 1953. According to his testimony, he saw an oval-shaped object of a cream color moving at high speed at an estimated altitude of 50,000 feet. The object suddenly tilted and began descending at a 70-degree angle, burning with a red flame. Reed, who had 20/20 vision and extensive experience with aircraft, insisted it was not a conventional plane or atmospheric phenomenon. The object stopped mid-air, changed back to its original cream color, and then disappeared. Although the report classifies the event as a meteor, Reed was convinced he had seen something extraordinary.

The official report, endorsed by a USAF officer, acknowledged Reed's integrity but suggested he exaggerated some aspects of the event. Despite being labeled a meteor, Reed's account remains compelling and highlights how unexplained aerial events continue to spark debate among UFO researchers. The document, declassified decades later, is a classic example of the blurred line between natural phenomena and the unknown.
