Summary

In June 1953, a pilot flying a Luscomb aircraft spotted a dark, circular object over White Plains, New York. The object, estimated to be about six feet in diameter, was traveling northeast at approximately 2,500 feet and a speed of 240 mph. Although the pilot observed it clearly, no photos were taken and no physical evidence was collected. The report was submitted late to ATIC, which made it difficult to evaluate accurately. It was concluded that there was insufficient data to identify the object, though a weather balloon was mentioned as a possible explanation.

The description and behavior of the object didn't fully match conventional objects, leading to some uncertainty. The pilot reported the sighting to air traffic control, but no further details were recorded. Like many cases from that era, this one was classified and later downgraded, without ever resolving its true nature. Despite the lack of conclusive data, the testimony of a professional pilot adds credibility to the report.
