Summary

In July 1953, a civilian observer at Tinker Air Base in Oklahoma sighted a round, white, shiny object. The object remained stationary for three to four minutes without showing signs of movement, sound, or exhaust. Despite its unusual appearance, military authorities concluded it was a weather balloon launched by a mobile weather squadron. Several witnesses, including base personnel and civilian guards, confirmed the sighting through binoculars. Meteorological data and the balloon’s trajectory matched the observation, supporting the identification. The investigation included azimuth and elevation readings, wind data at various altitudes, and coordination with intelligence officers.

Tinker Air Base submitted detailed reports to Air Force intelligence authorities, including questions about whether the object seen by a civilian guard was the same balloon observed from the control tower. The responses confirmed no radar contact and that the balloon followed a trajectory consistent with weather conditions. Although initially generating some uncertainty, the case was resolved by linking the sighting to a documented weather balloon launch. This document is part of the Project Blue Book archives, which collected and analyzed UFO reports to rule out conventional explanations.
