Strange light over Onida in 1953

Summary

In August 1953, an unknown light was observed over Onida, South Dakota. The report notes that the object appeared similar to a star or an airplane's wing light, but did not behave like either. The object hovered momentarily before making several course changes at impossible speeds. It reappeared from the north, flew over the town, and disappeared to the southeast. The weather was overcast with light drizzle, making identification even more difficult. The report concludes that it was neither a jet nor a conventional aircraft. The object was sighted by Major Me'tie Levis, who was on leave in Onida at the time.
