In August 1953, a witness in San Rafael, California reported seeing fourteen cigar-shaped objects with white lights moving in a loose V formation. The observer, using 4x opera glasses, described the objects traveling at about 200 mph, appearing over their head and then disappearing behind clouds. Although the official conclusion suggested it might have been a group of stars reflected by moving clouds, the detailed description and the brief three-minute observation raised some curiosity.
The official investigation could not confirm the phenomenon, suggesting that the movement of clouds might have created the illusion of moving objects. However, the observer, considered reliable after years of service, adds an air of mystery to this case. The absence of noise or visible propulsion also drew attention, keeping open the possibility that it was something unusual.
