Summary

In December 1953, two U.S. Navy pilots observed ten oval, silvery objects flying in formation over El Cajón, California. The military aircraft were orbiting at 20,000 feet when they noticed the objects at a high altitude, moving eastward at a speed exceeding 400 knots. They left no trail and no visible propulsion system was observed. The sighting lasted five minutes under ideal weather conditions, with no wind and unlimited visibility. The pilots, both with over two and a half years of experience, described the phenomenon as unusual and impossible to intercept.

The report concluded that the objects could not be identified with the available data. Despite other air traffic in the area, no other pilot reported the same phenomenon. The lack of physical evidence and the inability to confirm the identity of the objects led to the classification of "unidentified." This case is another example of the numerous sightings during the Cold War that generated interest and debate in military and scientific circles.
