Summary

In January 1954, an observer in Sioux City, Iowa spotted an object in the sky that appeared to be a meteor. The object, described as one-third the size of the moon with a green and orange tail, was seen for 2 to 3 seconds from a car moving at 50 mph. Although the initial report classified it as an astronomical meteor, there were doubts about its identity due to a possible connection with a sighting in Omaha. The report lacked photographs or radar data, limiting the ability to confirm its nature with certainty.

The officer who prepared the report, Earle W. Stanley, considered the observer reliable, but did not reach a definitive conclusion about the cause of the sighting. Additionally, there was a later attempt by a flying saucers group in Tennessee to obtain more information about a possible jet pursuit of an unidentified object in the area, although no direct connection to the Iowa case was confirmed.
