In August 1952, the CIA assessed reports on "flying saucers" and concluded most were fake or explainable. Between 1000 and 2000 reports were received, many attributed to natural phenomena like meteors, clouds, or optical illusions. Others were linked to known military or civilian equipment. Only a few cases remained unexplained, with no clear pattern. Despite this, the agency recommended continued monitoring in case new clues emerged.
The CIA also emphasized avoiding public alarm, as the media tended to accept any UFO interest as confirmation of government secrets. A comprehensive briefing was scheduled for August 8, 1952, to further analyze the data. Although no conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence was found, surveillance continued as a precaution.
