🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1954, a couple in Columbus, Ohio, observed an object that initially appeared like a star. As it approached, it showed red lights in a V shape and interior white or orange lights. The object slowly ascended and then accelerated toward the southwest, disappearing at low altitude. The sighting lasted between five and seven minutes.
Although the object displayed unusual behaviors, such as appearing stationary and then rapidly accelerating, investigators concluded it was likely an aircraft. This is because aircraft at a distance can seem motionless, and when changing direction, their speed becomes more noticeable. The case illustrates how aircraft can cause confusion in night sightings.
