🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1954, a civilian observer reported a large luminous object approximately 50 miles southwest of Needles, California. The sighting occurred at an altitude between 18,000 and 20,000 feet, though the exact duration of the observation was not recorded. Radar sites were alerted by Los Angeles air traffic control but failed to detect the object. The report, brief and lacking photographs or physical evidence, concluded that there was insufficient data for evaluation.
Such reports were common during the Cold War era, when any unidentified aerial phenomenon generated concern. Despite the lack of concrete information, files like this show how authorities tried to document the unexplained, without reaching definitive conclusions.
