🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1954, a fisherman in Mississippi observed a strange object falling from the sky into Sardis Lake. The object, described as small, round, and emitting a blue flame, hit the water with a splash and disappeared quickly. Despite immediate efforts to locate it, the object remained submerged for months. Eventually, in September, low water levels exposed a plastic device with radio tubes and wires, identified as an Air Force transmitter. The official explanation pointed to a paratrooper signaling device, though it initially generated confusion and speculation.
The case was widely covered by local media, and military authorities collaborated with civilian engineers to recover the object. Although the UFO hypothesis was dismissed, the incident illustrates how lost military equipment could generate mystery and public attention. The Air Force thanked the Corps of Engineers for their cooperation, highlighting the importance of reporting unidentified objects to clarify rumors and maintain transparency.
