In July 1954, a witness in Waterville, Minnesota, reported a low-flying unidentified object moving south. The object was described as a 12-inch diameter sphere with a bright white color, resembling a cluster of lights. The observer saw it rapidly ascend from low to high altitude before disappearing. The sighting lasted about three minutes, with no smoke or sound detected.
Researchers considered several possibilities, including balloons, aircraft, and astronomical phenomena, but no definitive conclusion was reached. The official report suggested it might have been a balloon, though other explanations were not ruled out. The case was ultimately deemed insufficient for evaluation, leaving open the possibility of an unusual or even extraterrestrial phenomenon.
