In July 1954, a retired Marine Corps general reported hearing an unusual sound in the sky that he could not identify. With 26 years of aviation experience, he stated the noise did not resemble jets, rockets, or artillery shells. The object was estimated to be traveling three to four times faster than a jet, prompting official interest.
