🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A witness in Bethesda, Maryland, reported a stationary object in the southern sky on July 30, 1954. The object was described as similar in size and color to Mars, with slow and erratic movement. The report concluded the phenomenon was astronomical, attributing it to Mars. Despite the long observation time, there were no photos or radar data. The observer, a naval reserve officer, stated weather conditions were ideal for clear sky visibility.
The report was evaluated by Project 10073, which considered the possibility of a weather balloon but ultimately classified the event as astronomical. The object showed no characteristics of an aircraft or balloon, and its behavior was explained by atmospheric conditions. This case is an example of how UFO reports are often resolved with natural or astronomical explanations.
