Summary

In August 1954, a witness in Lafayette, Indiana, reported a metallic object measuring 4 feet long and 2 feet wide. The object was composed of metal pieces fused together, which caught the attention of authorities. Although several possibilities were considered, such as balloons or astronomical phenomena, later analysis suggested the material came from a steel mill or foundry where chromium is commonly added to steel. The investigation did not conclude with a definitive explanation, but pointed to a terrestrial source.

The case gained more relevance in 1956 when a civilian investigator presented samples he claimed came from "flying saucers." The Air Force sent an officer to investigate, but tests revealed the material was actually a chromium ingot, common in steel industries. Additionally, the famous "angel hair," supposedly a byproduct of spacecraft, turned out to be an ordinary industrial material. The investigation concluded the case was a hoax or prank, with no evidence of extraterrestrial origin.
