Summary

In August 1954, a bright object was observed in the sky over Columbus, Georgia. Civilian and military witnesses reported a round object glowing in brilliant orange and red, fading to white. The object remained stationary for six minutes without showing any movement. An Eastern Airlines flight attempted to locate it but failed to see anything. Weather data at the time indicated stable conditions with scattered clouds and moderate winds at various altitudes.

The official conclusion of the report pointed to an astronomical explanation, possibly related to Mars, which was in the west at that time. Despite multiple observations and detailed weather records, the object vanished without a trace. This case, though not officially classified as an unidentified UFO, remains an interesting example of how sightings were recorded and analyzed in the 1950s.
