🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1954, several observers in Greenbelt, Maryland, spotted between 4 and 5 shiny objects flying in a V formation. The sighting was drawn to the observers' attention by the sun reflecting off the objects' surfaces. Witnesses noted that the objects climbed rapidly out of sight without producing sound or showing aerodynamic features. A similar sighting occurred in District Heights, just 7 miles away, suggesting a widely visible phenomenon. Although balloons or aircraft were considered, no definitive identification was made.
The observation was officially recorded as a ground visual sighting, with no photographs or radar data. Observers, including a woman in an apartment complex, contacted Andrews AFB to report the event. Weather conditions were clear, ruling out meteorological explanations. Despite investigations, the report concluded there was insufficient data to evaluate the nature of the objects with certainty.
