🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A black spherical object, estimated to be 3 to 10 feet in diameter, was observed spinning in the sky above Lambert Field in Missouri on August 27, 1954. Initially mistaken for a balloon, the object suddenly accelerated toward the northwest and disappeared. The sighting lasted between 3 and 4 minutes, and was observed with the naked eye and later with 6x30 binoculars. There were no sounds, trails, or unusual maneuvers, which led to some confusion about its nature.
Official reports found no physical evidence or radar confirmation, and no similar objects were reported in the area. Although a weather balloon was considered a possibility, there were no records of any being launched in the 17 hours prior. The final evaluation concluded the object "could be a balloon," but the lack of concrete data left many questions unanswered.
