🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1954, a witness in Helsinki spotted a circular object flying at 800 meters altitude. It emitted an intense light and left a reddish smoke trail. The phenomenon lasted 7 seconds and caused some alarm at the time. Although a meteorite was considered possible, the detailed description of the object and its behavior didn't fully match what would be expected from a natural phenomenon. This case is part of a series of sightings across Europe in 1954, with various official evaluations ranging from conventional explanations to unresolved reports.
The official ATIC (Air Technical Intelligence Committee) assessment concluded it could be a meteorite, but no physical evidence or photographs supported this theory. The report is part of a set of declassified records showing how authorities tried to make sense of a wave of sightings that, in hindsight, might have been influenced by factors like media publicity and the popularity of UFO books at the time.
