Summary

In November 1954, a witness in Augusta, Maine, reported seeing ten bright objects arranged in a V formation. The sighting occurred at dusk and lasted three minutes. The objects flew in a straight path without making any sound and, according to the report, "seemed to dissolve." There were no photographs or radar involved, and the report concluded that there was insufficient information to determine their nature. It was noted that the lighting conditions were such that the objects could have been anything from planes at high altitude to birds at low altitude.

The lack of precise data and the inability to identify the phenomenon led to the classification of the event as "unknown." Although several possibilities were considered, such as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena, none were confirmed. This case reflects the difficulty investigators of the time had in evaluating sightings without clear or conclusive evidence.
