🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In November 1954, an observer at the air traffic control tower in Los Alamos, New Mexico, spotted a silent, silver object moving very slowly. The object was seen for 10 minutes and left no visible trail or emissions. Two F-86 aircraft were diverted to search for it, but failed to identify it. The official conclusion pointed to a temperature inversion that may have reflected a civilian aircraft taking off from Santa Fe Airport. Despite the lack of physical evidence, the report noted there was no air traffic in the area at that time.
The report includes testimonies from a pilot and a control tower technician, who agreed on the object's description and the clear weather conditions. Although the object could not be identified with certainty, conventional explanations such as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena were ruled out. The investigation concluded there was insufficient information for a definitive evaluation, but suggested the phenomenon might have been an optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions.
