Summary

In February 1955, an observer at Kobler Field in Saipan recorded a bright, elliptical-shaped object for nearly two hours. The report, classified under Project 10073, describes a ground-based visual observation without photographic evidence. The object was seen reflecting light and moving slowly across the sky, maintaining a consistent course. Despite its unusual appearance, investigators concluded it was the star Rigel, whose position matched that of the object. The description of its movement and brightness suggested an astronomical explanation, although the irregular shape generated some uncertainty.

The report includes technical data such as elevation and azimuth angles, obtained using theodolites. Although the object disappeared from view shortly after 14:27, the observation was detailed and recorded by military personnel. This entry in the ATIC's Form 329 shows how even in the 1950s, observers attempted to explain unknown aerial phenomena with scientific methods. In this case, the conclusion was clear: it was not a UFO, but a well-known star.
