🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In March 1955, Eugene Metcalf from Paris, Illinois, claimed to witness a UFO "abducting" a jet aircraft. According to his account, the object—a large, bright silver bell-shaped craft—emerged from the southwest, swallowed the jet, and then pulsated and spun before disappearing northeast. Despite sketches and a photo, military authorities deemed the witness "completely unreliable," attributing the sighting to hallucination or psychological factors. The case gained attention from private research groups but yielded no conclusive evidence.
The Air Force investigated and found no evidence of aerial or astronomical activity in the area. Metcalf's detailed narrative lacked objective support, and his testimony was considered untrustworthy. Nonetheless, the incident became a curious footnote in UFO history, highlighting the challenge of distinguishing real phenomena from subjective perception.
