🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A civilian witness in Avalon, Catalina Island, California, observed a bright orange object that turned red. The object moved straight down and was visible for about two seconds. Although the possibility of a balloon, aircraft, or meteor was considered, the data was insufficient for a definitive evaluation. The sighting was recorded without photos and concluded to possibly be a meteor. This case is part of many unidentified aerial sightings from the 1950s.
