In March 1955, a witness in San Jose, California, observed a bright green object that appeared to be on fire. The object, described as elongated, fell from the sky toward Earth, stopped, and then arced. The sighting lasted five seconds and was recorded as possibly a meteor or astronomical event. Researchers considered the astronomical explanation, though no further investigation was authorized.
The official report marked the possibility that it was an astronomical phenomenon, such as a meteor, and no traces of fire were found in the area. Despite the brief observation, the intense color and behavior of the object generated interest. The report concluded there was insufficient data for a definitive evaluation, but pointed toward a natural explanation.
