Summary

An 11-year-old boy in Decatur, Georgia, observed a luminous object in the sky on April 19, 1955. While looking west through toy binoculars, he saw a white light slowly moving westward for about five minutes before it disappeared. Although the witness was young and his perception might be questionable, the official report suggested the light could have been a weather balloon. Investigators contacted several weather stations and confirmed a balloon had been launched near the time of the sighting. However, the possibility of an aircraft or light reflection was not entirely ruled out. The investigation did not reach definitive conclusions, but pointed toward a conventional explanation.

The lack of photographs or additional testimonies complicated the evaluation of the case. Despite significant air traffic in the area, no other sightings were reported. The most plausible conclusion, given the available information, pointed to a weather balloon, although the mystery was not fully resolved.
